Our client purchased a condo in the Tuscany-Canterbury neighbor of Baltimore city over the summer. The existing kitchen in the unit had been recently remodeled, but it was done poorly with cheap builder's grade cabinetry, basic appliances and faux granite laminate tops. The workmanship on the tile floor was not up to our client's or our standards. With big gaps between the tile and the door jambs, the tile had to be redone as well.

Our clients love their Pikesville home. With no reason to move or down size, and having been through several remodeling and landscaping projects, our clients wanted to solve a few fundamental problems with the kitchen. Among the problems, the lack of counter top or horizontal work surfaces  was the main deficiency.  To compound the problem, a side entrance door  consumed important wall and potential counter space in the room. A vinyl sliding window further complicated the room.  Our clients also wanted a more open feel to their smaller kitchen.  The adjacent dining room was served by a small pass through between the two rooms. There was also a large pantry cabinet on the wall between the kitchen and dining room and our client was very concerned about losing storage space if the cabinet was removed. The lack of counter space, the side door, and the small footprint of the room made it a difficult kitchen for two cooks to work.

Our client recently moved to the Baltimore area and had had a love affair with her New York kitchen which she left behind. We were referred to her by the original cabinet companies, one of our long time suppliers. The space was being prepared by a General contractor James Huber and Co. And all we had to do was squeeze a big kitchen into a some what smaller space.

This kitchen needed some work !! We were called in to increase the efficiency, function and appearance of a kitchen that had been added in the mid fifties judging by the materials and cabinets used. The layout was poor, the appliances seemed to sit in the middle of the floor, there was no counter space, the ceiling was too low in half of the room since “the easy way out” had been taken when installing the previously added steel support . The flat roof above leaked and ponded water the traffic flow was poor since the kitchen door was the main home entrance from the rear garage, and intruded into the work areas. Our investigation of the structure indicated an addition in an addition which is always a remodeler’s nightmare . The sub floor was on three different levels and there was a large hump over the original foundation where settlement had occurred.
