We recently had a customer from Owings Mills, Maryland come to us with a common problem among new homes. The problem was the fact that the door frame and panel above the door were rotting off of the house.
To make matters worse, the panel above and below the door was covered with aluminum. This created a situation which trapped water behind the aluminum and helped rot out the panel and frame. Often, these builder grade doors are manufactured with lesser quality wood and finger jointed frames. The panels are often of poor quality, too. Our customer wanted to replace the door and sidelights with products that would not rot out. We chose the Provia smooth fiberglass door with Permatech frame. The Permatech frame is a composite door frame that will never rot out. Privacy was also a concern with the sidelights, so we Provia installed rain glass, which offers both light and privacy. The door was factory painted Mountain Berry on the exterior and cream on the interior. Finally, the rotted panel above the door was replaced using Azek pvc molding, 1x4 and flat stock.
