When our client down sized and moved into the city to be closer to their children’s schools, they found themselves with an acute lack of space for the items we all collect through out our lives. We worked at first on a plan that would convert the front porch into a coat closet but the disruption of the unique architecture of the front of the home was soon discarded. We then moved to the rear where it was thought that a small shed enclosure on the existing deck may be the solution but again that was discarded and so was the deck!!!!! The current family room was in the basement but somewhat inaccessible considering the flow of the existing floor plan.
Our client, a repeat customer, recently moved into their “new” home. We had some familiarity with this home having remodeled it for the previous owner! Small world indeed. We had accomplished some minor remodel upon our clients to tide them over until plans could be drawn for a bigger kitchen and a more inter-active and opened floor plan. There was also a need for a guest room/office, mud room and lots of additional storage capacity and closet space. It broke my heart to tear out a deck , kitchen and other features I had personally added to the home but hey! Let’s have at it. We would be building over a previously added addition and even taking on exterior landscaping which we seldom get involved in.
This client lives in a Semi-Detached home with little space in which to expand. There was no room on the existing first floor to add a needed powder room or to expand the kitchen with out consuming the needed dining room in the process.
What started out as a to do list upon arrival in their new house hold many years ago, grew into a whole house remodel that cleaned the slate and will now allow our clients to relax for the next 10 years at least.
What started out as a wedding promise of more closet space exploded into a total remake of an Evergreen area cottage into the “King of the Hill”
